The Business and Accounting Department at Furman University invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Accounting. The position will commence on August 1, 2024. The ideal candidate will be able to teach both introductory level courses in managerial/financial accounting and advanced courses, preferably in federal income taxation and managerial accounting. Successful candidates are expected to excel at teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or publication in outlets valued by active members of the profession or contribute to their discipline in other significant ways.The successful candidate will have the ability to work with historically underrepresented students, including students of color, and be committed to assisting the university in its continuing efforts to become a model of inclusive excellence.
A doctoral degree in accounting is preferred at the time of appointment; a Masters degree and CPA or CMA designation will be considered. Professional accounting experience is desired, but not required. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Successful candidates are expected to excel at teaching at the undergraduate level, mentor and advise students, support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and conduct original research leading to peer-reviewed publications or publication in outlets valued by active members of the profession, or contribute to their discipline in other significant ways.
The teaching load is five sections per academic year. In addition to the introductory financial/managerial course, the candidate will ideally be prepared to teach federal income taxation and managerial accounting.
A successful candidate will be active in the accounting field and eager to develop high-impact engaged learning experiences for undergraduates as part of The Furman Advantage. Examples of these experiences include directing undergraduate research, mentoring, and directing students in course-related projects in the community.
A successful candidate must also be able to work with historically underrepresented students, including students of color, and be committed to assisting the university in its continuing efforts to become a model of inclusive excellence.

The Business and Accounting Department confers bachelor’s degrees with majors in accounting and business. The department also participates in an interdisciplinary minor in data analytics. There are currently 8 full-time business and accounting faculty members. The Joe & Diana Hurley Finance & Business Analytics Lab provides students and faculty with access to Bloomberg terminals, Capital IQ and MSCI’s ESG Direct.
