As an assistant barn manager, you will help with daily facility operations and assist in staff training and professional development alongside the head barn manager. You will be responsible for the supervision of grooms twice a week, in the absence of the barn manager, and as otherwise needed. You will participate in employees' hiring and training, assign staff duties, and address complaints to resolve problems. You will be responsible for the organization and oversight of equine care, including feeding, turnout, shoeing, grooming, haying, watering, and administering medications and supplements. In this role, you will monitor inventories, treat minor injuries, assist veterinarian staff with emergencies, and complete general farm duties such as sweeping and checking fences for problems. You will also monitor horses' general health, maintain the equestrian center's appearance, and assess employees’ performance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in equine science or a related field
- Proven ability and experience with a sound understanding of equine care
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Experience driving with a horse trailer
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Valid driver's license
Travel Required:
- Less than 10%
Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
