Position Information

Hiring Department: Department of Pharmacy

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: 09/01/2024.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Purpose of Position

Summary: The Assistant Dean for Assessment's primary responsibility is to provide leadership, expertise, and support for assessment, accreditation, and strategic planning efforts within the School of Pharmacy. The Assistant Dean for Assessment is responsible for overseeing the Assessment Office, including working with the School's faculty-led Assessment Committee, holding a leadership role in coordinating accreditation-related activities, collaborating with the Office of Academic Affairs to coordinate assessment efforts related to the curriculum, and other academic concerns relating to assessment and program planning.

Essential Functions

Supervises the assessment operations, manages the Assessment office and oversees activities related to degree program design, evaluation of prior learning, review of degree programs and assessment committee deliberations.

Actively participates in supporting the activities of the School's Assessment Committee and serves as ex-officio Committee member in Associate Dean's absence to help ensure that all important academic concerns are addressed, consistency of fair judgment is maintained, and students and faculty are given clear and concise communication.

Schedules and prepares agenda for Assessment Committee meetings in coordination with the faculty committee chair;; bringing relevant information to the committee regarding concerns of students and mentors, SOP policies, curricular guidelines, similar programs or requirements of other school and universities, professional organizations and industries; and communicates Assessment Committee deliberations to key stakeholders.

Facilitates an open channel of communication on assessment issues by encouraging and participating in faculty discussion of program planning and assessment issues in faculty business meetings colloquia, area of study meetings, and less formal groups.

Coordinates evaluation of prior learning activities by soliciting all evaluations, developing resources and maintaining procedures to provide appropriate materials to evaluators, , reviewing all evaluations of both classroom-based and experiential learning for adherence to SOP standards and approving evaluations prior to committee review.

Participates in forums on assessment-related topics including meeting weekly with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to review assessment policy issues and faculty development activities.

Partners with the Assessment Committee and assessment office staff to establish objectives and procedures for further improvements of assessment resources and procedures and interacting with assessment personnel from other programs at UTEP and other Universities (School of Pharmacy).

Participating actively in the School of Pharmacy governance system as appropriate, including service in different school committees.

Occasionally, representing the School of Pharmacy at UTEP and community functions.

Mentoring academic expertise, as other responsibilities permit, or leading small group studies for the collection of assessment information.

Managing and compiling the School of Pharmacy strategic plan.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree

and

Experience: Five years of related experience and training to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
