Job Summary

This role focuses on leading the IT Partners @ Gies Software, AI, and Automation Engineering team, managing projects, and optimizing workflows to support the instructional, research, and administrative functions of the Gies College of Business.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Development

    •Lead and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
    •Collaborate with senior technical staff to mentor and build the technical expertise of the team.
    •Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify professional development opportunities.
    •Promote a culture of continuous improvement and agile development methodologies within the team.

  • Project Management

    •Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software development, web, vended platform management, AI integration, and process automation, ensuring alignment with the college's strategic goals.
    •Develop project plans and timelines and manage resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
    •Work collaboratively with the IT Partners Client Succes and Operations team to facilitate effective communication among stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and external partners, to gather requirements and provide project updates.

  • Workflow and Process Optimization

    •Design and implement efficient workflows and processes to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the software engineering team.
    •Coordinate with software engineering staff to identify and implement best practices for software development, documentation, and quality assurance.
    •Work in collaboration with the IT Partners Client Success and Operations group to ensure all software products meet usability, accessibility, and quality standards.
    •Utilize data-driven approaches to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement in the software development lifecycle.

  • Strategic Collaboration and Support

    •Collaborate with other IT Partners groups, including Data Strategy and Management; Infrastructure and Solutions Architecture; and Client Success and Operations.
    •Coordinate support for custom software, applications, and platforms with IT Partners Client Success and Operations.
    •Collaborate with other IT units and college departments to align software engineering initiatives with organizational objectives.
    •Represent the software engineering team in campus-wide working groups and committees.
    •Provide support and guidance on technical issues and ensure compliance with university policies and industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories:College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

Computer science degree preferred.
Experience in leading teams with a people-centered management approach. Experience in collaborative work with software development, data, and client teams. Experience in managing software development projects. Experience in developing automations and business process improvement initiatives. Experience with University of Illinois systems and processes.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5030 - Information Technology Manager/Administrative Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon aspossible after the search close date. Salary is competitive and commensuratewith qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Thebudgeted salary range for the position is $95,000 to $115,000.  Professional development and other advancementopportunities are also available. Sponsorship for work authorization is notavailable for this position.
