Job Summary

The Counselor Education Program in the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education (EDSCE) in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky invites applications for an assistant professor position in Counselor Education, clinical title series. This position is not tenure eligible. The appointment is a nine-month appointment, effective August 16, 2025.

The Counselor Education Program is a program with specialties in Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling for distance learning at the master’s level, Counselor Education and Supervision at the doctoral level, and Interdisciplinary Disability Studies at the undergraduate level. The Counselor Education graduate programs are CACREP-accredited. Faculty provide exceptional education and training to all our students and affirm professional identities. Clinical title faculty members within the EDSCE department are highly valued, significantly contribute to teaching and training within the program, and serve in important leadership roles within the department.

The individual chosen for this position must meet the following minimum criteria:
  • An earned doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education or Rehabilitation Counseling program by start date.
  • Certified rehabilitation counselor, or demonstrate eligibility, prior to start date.
  • CRC and Kentucky LPCC eligible in Kentucky by start date.
  • Experience in (or show potential for) teaching core CACREP and specialized courses in the Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s programs and the Interdisciplinary Disability Studies undergraduate program.
  • A willingness to teach, supervise, and mentor Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral students.
  • Clinical and/or supervision experience in counseling.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience in use of instructional technology.


Responsibilities include the following: Perform teaching duties as a clinical assistant professor; conduct clinical supervision if needed; provide service to the Counselor Education program; the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education (EDSCE); the College of Education; and the University of Kentucky. The individual is expected to teach four courses each semester and advise students across the master’s programs. Additional responsibilities may include participating in curriculum assessment and development, contributing to program administration, and providing service to community and professional organizations.
