RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach a wide variety of data science and statistics courses primarily in an in-person format.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs. 
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.  Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.
  • Teach data science and statistics courses using an innovative and modern curriculum.
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of the curriculum in data science and statistics.
  • Supervise capstone experiences, e.g. student research projects, internships, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, or Biostatistics with an anticipated completion date before August 2025.
  • Experience teaching a data science or statistics course as the primary instructor or as a teaching assistant.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of data science or statistics at the undergraduate level as the primary instructor.
  • Evidence of a commitment to continually improve the data science and statistics curriculum.
  • Ability to make connections with industry partners, recruit students, develop workshops, promote our discipline to high school students.
  • Experience in the applications of data science or statistics.
  • Commitment to maintain proficiency in a variety of industry-standard tools/technologies for working with data.
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: machine learning, statistical consulting, industrial/engineering statistics, healthcare statistics, or research in the teaching and learning of data science or statistics.
  • Evidence of strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
