The Office of Special Events

The Office of Special Events is dedicated to providing quality entertainment for UTEP and the El Paso/Juarez/Las Cruces communities.

Position Information

Hiring Department: The Office of Special Events

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: 40 hours per week, Variable / flexible Monday- Sunday, flexibility is required on evenings / weekends / Holidays

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $40,000 annually.

Purpose of Position

Summary:The Building Services/Housekeeping Supervisor is essential in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and a positive guest experience at all UTEP Office of Special Events Venues, including the Don Haskins Center, Sun Bowl Stadium, and Magoffin Auditorium. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, this role involves overseeing both internal custodial staff and third-party cleaning services to ensure top-notch cleanliness and presentation. The supervisor will also manage a team of Building Attendants responsible for basic upkeep tasks such as changing lightbulbs, ceiling tile repairs, painting, and restocking supplies. This position is key to creating a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment for guests, staff, and stakeholders.

Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.



1. Team Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise, train, and lead full-time Building Attendants and ASSP housekeeping staff, ensuring they adhere to established standards and guidelines.

  • Create and maintain a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.



    2. Third Party Vendor Management:

  • Collaborate with the third-party cleaning companies to ensure they deliver exceptional cleaning services in compliance with contractual agreements.

  • Manage large scale cleanings (Make Ready, Event Support & Post Cleans) to ensure they stay within budget and in scope.



    3. Quality Control, Health and Safety, and SOPs:

  • Oversee the implementation of effective cleaning and sanitation procedures throughout the venues, including seating areas, restrooms, suites, and common areas.

  • Assist in the planning of all Make Ready, Event Support & Post Cleans for events held within the venues.

  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the housekeeping staff within the building services side of the department, and ensure they are adhered to by a third-party cleaning company.

  • Interprets and translates company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations

  • Support the Building Services Manager by assisting in regular inspections to ensure compliance with cleanliness and presentation standards.

  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions promptly.



    4. Inventory, Machines and Supplies:

  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.

  • Monitor expenses and budgets related to housekeeping operations, seeking cost-effective solutions.

  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all equipment and supplies - not limited to scrubbers, vacuums, carpet extractors, and other cleaning equipment, or all other tools/carts used in department. All equipment should stay in working order and maintenance schedules upkept.







    Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages internal housekeeping staff and third-party vendors.

  • Responsible for assisting in the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all housekeeping aspects within the Special Events venues

  • Ensure all events held within the Special Events venues are up to our world class cleaning standard.

  • Assist in developing improved SOP's.

  • Assist in assigning training courses for operating equipment including Custodial Equipment and Vehicle/Golf Cart.

    Education and/or Experience

  • A minimum education level of: High School Diploma or its equivalency

  • 3-year Supervisory experience in Custodial/Housekeeping Operations

  • Working knowledge of stadium, or arena and theater cleaning/housekeeping is preferred, not required.





    Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays (as assigned).

  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Ability to train, oversee and direct staff in the performance of housekeeping.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet deadlines and function under stress.

  • Ability to climb stairs.

  • Complex problem solving and adaptability.

  • Reliable, punctual, and regular in attendance

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time (4-6 hours per shift) and lift tables, chairs, etc.

  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.

  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); and ability to learn all required business systems.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include Steel toe or non-slippery shoes, back belt, eye protection, and rubber or leather gloves. The employee must regularly sit; use hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must lift and move up to 35pounds.
