Job Summary

The CDL Instructor, Workforce Solutions position is a full-time, twelve-month instructor position for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program. This accelerated training program offers high-demand, industry credentials to adult students. The candidate must be able to follow a focused instructional timeline providing student learning through the delivery of course instruction in CDL training (instruction) that prepares them for the fast-paced work of the trucking and logistics industry.

Job Duties:

  • Facilitate delivery of CDL training to students from a variety of backgrounds and monitor all student skill activities/progress.
  • Accompany students to the Kentucky State Police testing facility, assist with test scheduling, and prepare students for successful completion of the Class A CDL driving test.
  • Comply with all federal and state DOT requirements and ensure program standards continually meet the Federal Training Provider Registry Requirements.
  • Work daily with the team to organize classroom, range, and on-the-road student training activities, being mindful of student-to-instructor ratios and individual student learning styles.
  • Evaluate and assess student completion and learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Solutions support team for student success coaching and tracking as needed.
  • Work with the Workforce Director of Operations to ensure vehicles and trailers are maintained and repairs are made as needed.
  • Maintain and keep inventory of CDL equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in student and employer recruitment events and student retention activities.
  • Participate in team planning meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • We offer day and evening classes, and this position may require evening shifts based on scheduling needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4 - 6 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years over-the-road CDL driving experience or other related technical experience
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team.

  • Must have basic computer skills and be able to perform tasks in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 6 - 8 years of relevant experience
  • 5 years of CDL driving experience or other related technical experience 
  • CDL Driving instructor experience and/or trainee road supervision
  • Proficient in Electronic Logging Devices (ELD)
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
