As the CNC generalist machinist, you will be responsible for adjusting machines to control speed, material feed, and path of the cut, as well as ensuring the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality output. Responsibilities will include assisting students with the fabrication of course-related projects by utilizing CNC technology in the shop; providing support with departmental and university infrastructure; and creating parts for special projects, renovations, and construction. In this position you will be expected to clearly communicate with students on necessary procedures and information for CNC use, edit student CAD files as needed, program and execute three and five-axis CNC projects with Mastercam, and work collaboratively with the operations coordinator and shop staff to assist students with their projects.
It is the responsibility of the CNC generalist machinist to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the lab for all SCAD members, following all SCAD and OSHA policies and procedures. The person in this position must maintain a professional appearance at all times and be able to work a flexible schedule, including over time, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must have relevant CNC experience as well as experience with Rhinoceros, Solidworks, or similar software, with a proficiency in three-dimensional modeling
• Demonstrates a detailed oriented approach to work with an ability to multitask in a deadline-oriented environment
• Possesses knowledge of wood, wood processes, and wood working machinery with ability to measure dimensions of finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications
• Ability to review program specifications to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished work piece dimensions, and numerical control sequences
• Ability to request maintenance and repair of equipment as needed; verbalizes knowledge of programming errors; familiar with the School of Design studio equipment, techniques, and safety procedures
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Valid driver’s license
- Acceptance as a SCAD authorized driver
Travel required:
- Less than 10%
Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
