SUMMARY

Responsible for the academic planning, leadership, management and growth of West Coast University. Provides leadership for academic standards, policies, and procedures for the University. Responsible for driving a culture that embodies the university’s mission and values.

Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Shareholder, the Co-President of University and Business Operations, and Shared Service leaders, provides leadership for West Coast University in planning, developing, implementing and directing short and long-range goals and objectives, organizational structure, annual budget, capital equipment expenditures and improvements, and other operational and financial initiatives to support overall strategic business goals, vision and mission of the institution.

Provides leadership for ensuring quality in all aspects of the University’s instructional, educational, student services, student development and staff in support of student learning outcomes.

Works collaboratively to develop performance standards and measurements to track/monitor program completion, testing, student outcomes, cost of instructional efficiencies and other measures of desired performance to ensure continual improvement; recommends/establishes targets for instructional achievement and provides oversight/support to campus leaders to achieve same.

Provides leadership for evaluating and ensuring quality in all aspects of the University’s academic programs and staff; provides leadership and direction for engaging faculty and staff participation in support of campus wide educational priorities, including but not limited to: program development, program review, curriculum and articulation initiatives, assessment of student learning outcomes and accreditation relationships.

Provides leadership and ensures compliance of all academic policies and procedures with state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs. In addition, provides leadership in securing and maintaining full compliance with all relevant accreditation and regulatory bodies and their regulations, including Title IV, WASC, BPPVE (and its successors), and others as identified by University leadership.

Serves as Chief Academic Officer.

Oversees the planning, implementation/integration and evaluation of all on-ground, general education, and on-line programs and services at all campuses.

Oversees the design and implementation of a comprehensive faculty development program.

Conducts program reviews to determine the demand for new credit programs, classes and services.  Reviews existing offerings to insure relevance, currency and successful student outcomes.

Develops, implements and monitors all academic assessment programs and corrective action initiatives.

Assures that high quality competent academic program deans and associates, full time / adjunct faculty members are recruited, retained and developed.

Assures that students are provided support services to maintain the highest level of student achievement while safeguarding the integrity of the educational process.

Monitors and analyzes student attrition and retention data and works with campus leaders to develop initiatives that improve retention.

Leads Academic Innovation.

Represents the university externally to media, regulatory agencies, funding agencies, and the general public as appropriate.

Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.

Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or university information as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Doctoral degree required.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five years’ successful experience as a chief academic officer or president/chief executive in a regionally-accredited university context with responsibilities similar to those outlined above.  Experience must include leadership in comprehensive initial accreditation and subsequent reviews for reaccreditation.

A minimum of ten (10) years’ of demonstrated success in a strategic senior-level executive position preferably in a for-profit higher education context, including responsibility for strategic and fiscal planning, multi-campus management, faculty hiring and development, and new program development and review.

Demonstrated ability and success in cultivating excellence in a learner-centered environment.

Knowledge of all relevant regional, national and professional bodies and their regulations, including Title IV, WASC, ACICS, BPPVE (and its successors), and others as identified by University leadership. Knowledge of all relevant state and federal regulations and regulatory bodies interfacing with higher education.
