The Communications Coordinator (Design and Digital) is responsible for Communications department projects such as graphic design, website updates, operations coordination and as the first voice of the college for phone and other communications inquiries. This position also serves the students and the community by providing a friendly and timely information desk for the College in concert with the Office of Communications.

Essential Functions:

  1. Designs assigned creative projects such as print advertisements, college marketing materials and specialty publications.
  2. Designs slides and posts updates, in concert with other campus personnel of responsibility, to the college’s digital signage system.
  3. Coordinates assigned internal printing projects and works with external vendors as needed.
  4. Reviews assigned publications for alignment with college branding and updates college publication report.
  5. Updates the college’s websites, including www.ColumbiaState.edu, myChargerNet, and other digital channels.
  6. Maintains and updates college web calendar with college activities and events.
  7. Coordinates with the Office of Human Resources and Communications to ensure that the employee directory is timely and current with employee information and photos. 
  8. Reviews webpages for accuracy in information and/or coordination of needed review with department offices.
  9. Reviews, maintains and updates the college’s automated voice system directory for the college.  This includes monitoring campus-wide phone greetings and voicemail usage.
  10. Provides great customer service to students and community by answering questions and/or routing telephone calls to proper individuals and departments with follow-up as appropriate.
  11. Monitors telephone call volume and develops reports that outline call volume by week and month for submission to supervisor, the Office of Institutional Research and others as designated. 
  12. Studies and becomes familiar with college personnel, programs and services.
  13. Serves as college receptionist for directing students and visitors to appropriate areas.

Supplemental Functions:

  1. Logs and tracks projects in the Communications Office project management system.
  2. Clips and archives news articles for Communications Office.
  3. Creates purchase requisitions for Communications Office.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

Education, Training and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in mass communications (graphic design, journalism, public relations,
    advertising, or marketing.)
  2. Experience managing multiple projects, adapting to changing schedules and meeting deadlines.
  3. Demonstrated effective skills in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, branding, advertising, and/or content management systems.

Education, Training and Experience Preferred:

  1. Minimum of two years work experience in graphic design.
  2. Telephone techniques training or receptionist experience.
  3. Experience in a college setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

  1. Quality conscious with a high level of initiative and motivation.
  2. Design, layout and aesthetic skills.
  3. Must be self-motivated, able to meet deadlines and work in a team environment.
  4. Knowledge of both Mac and Windows operating systems.
  5. Awareness of Associated Press style writing.
  6. Outstanding ability to communicate via telephone or in person that demonstrates a culture of caring and personal assistance.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  8. Ability to operate a computerized phone system.
  9. Knowledge of current office practices, procedures and equipment.
  10. Ability to work with all populations in an environment that is caring and respectful of the backgrounds and/or choices of others.
  11. Ability to work with diverse customer service needs.
  12. Committed to the value of higher education.

Working Conditions:

  1. Work 37.5 hours per week with the flexibility to work overtime during peak periods.
  2. Heavy use of personal computer.
  3. Normal use of telephone and office equipment
  4. Heavy use of in-house printers
  5. Normal sitting, standing and movement within an office and campus environment

Hiring Salary Range:  $38,720- $46,460

This position is based at the Columbia, TN Campus.
