Job Summary

The Tutoring LEAD will work with the Tutoring Coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations, workflow, and services of the Tutoring Center as a whole, to include Embedded Tutoring and In-person/ Virtual tutoring. In addition, Lead Tutors will assist in the onboarding of new tutors, provide ongoing trainings for professional development, hold regularly scheduled site meetings, and submit learning period reports. Lead Tutors are to support the development of the tutoring program and implement best practices for program success.

Job Duties:

1. Conduct tutoring sessions as assigned in any of the three available formats (face-to-face, online, and remote) with students of a variety of experience levels by working in small groups, appointments or walk-in situations as assigned.
2. Work cooperatively with college faculty, advisors, and other departments to coordinate services to students.
3. Respond to subject specific Tutoring Starfish flags.
4. Keep accurate records relating to services provided to students.
5. Assist with the development and operation of the Tutoring Center.
6. Assist with developing and coordinating online workshops (in partnership with the Spotlight coordinators)
7. Monitor Tutoring Center correspondences and respond to students’ questions about Tutoring resources.
8. Leads by modeling tutor expectations and reinforcing best practices.
9. Provide students with information about the Tutoring Center’s on-campus, online, and remote services by assisting with orientation sessions and acting as a representative at on-campus events, as requested.
10. Support accountability and institutional effectiveness by developing, implementing, and assessing effective procedures that support college operations and foster student success.
11. Maintain regular communication with tutors through meetings, phone calls and email and hold regularly scheduled program meetings with tutors at designated site(s)
12. Conduct new tutor onboarding training and obtain feedback from tutors on all conducted trainings/professional developments.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Programing, etc.) and one year of related experience, or equivalent. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous tutoring experience
• Flexible in the assistance they provide to students
• Preference given to BCTC alumni
• Skilled in interpersonal communication and a good understanding of conversational nuances
• Ability to navigate online platforms to facilitate virtual tutoring
