Content Developers work as part of a matrixed team to develop novel online learning experiences for HBS Online. The Content Developer-Learning Experience Platform will play a critical role as HBS Online migrates its products and develops new courses on Harvard University’s new Learning Experience Platform (LXP).

Position Description

Content Development

  • Leverage understanding of platform functionality, learning design expertise, and writing skills, to migrate and update existing HBS Online courses and develop new content on Harvard University’s Learning Experience Platform (LXP)
  • Refine best practices for course migration (including automated importation scripts); document functional gaps with detailed QA analysis and bug tracking, designing and implementing content updates where needed
  • Work with HBS Online stakeholders and Harvard University IT LXP team to help inform new platform functionality, as needed, to deliver a high-quality, accessible learning experience and achieve learning objectives
  • Provide expertise to Content team members, faculty, and other stakeholders through the development of a comprehensive understanding of HBS Online and LXP course platform capabilities, user experience guidelines, and pedagogical possibilities
  • Work with faculty to optimally design content that leverages platform capabilities to meet learning objectives
  • Draft a variety of written content for online courses, as needed, which may include expository text, scripts for faculty video recordings, question prompts, and exercises
  • Serve as HBS Online point-person for faculty member(s) as needed, throughout content migration, revision, or development
  • Analyze existing academic material as needed, synthesizing concepts and proposing how they will be integrated into the course
  • Partner with colleagues in the Creative team to record, edit, and animate video content, as needed
  • Record progress in the Project Management software and provide regular updates to the Project Management team
  • Provide course knowledge to other HBS Online stakeholders to inform course delivery resourcing and marketing strategy
  • Consult with marketing team as they update and develop subject-specific, short-form content, including blog and social media posts to reflect the new LXP platform
Course Delivery
During the delivery of courses on the LXP platform, the Content Developer may:
  • Aid the platform development team in troubleshooting issues at the intersection of course content and technology
  • Make recommendations for the ongoing refinement and enhancement of courses by studying student activity and feedback data in collaboration with the Product Management team
  • The role is also responsible for other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 years related experience or coursework required or advanced degree with 3 years of experience

  • Prior work or research experience that demonstrates:
    • Capability to identify priorities, balance competing demands, and manage deadlines
    • Strong writing skills
    • Familiarity with learning design
    • Attention to detail
    • Stakeholder management
  • Intellectual curiosity, a passion for education, and a collaborative spirit
  • Pitches in where needed - “no job is too big or small”

Additional Information

This position is approved as a term appointment with an end date of 06/30/26. There is a possibility of renewal/extension.

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS Online Staff are expected to be onsite a minimum of 2 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.
