Title: Dean of Learning Resources

Job Summary

The Dean of Learning Resources oversees academic support services and cocurricular activities of the Learning Commons. This includes tutoring, library, mentoring, study spaces,
and other academically related student support services. The vision of the learning commons is to
ensure a welcoming and productive academic learning environment for all students.
The ideal candidates will be innovative and possess the ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to
design and development the Learning commons as a new initiative to enhance student success at
Jackson State.

Job Duties

  •  Develop and articulate a strategic vision for the JSCC Learning Commons and a comprehensive student success plan that aligns with the institution's mission and strategic priorities
  •  Provide direct oversight and administrative leadership for academic tutoring, library services, peer mentoring, and other academic support services
  •  In coordination with VPAA, Academic Deans and faculty, plan and implement academic readiness programs and workshops
  •  Develop and implement online student support services and technological solutions that enhance communication with students and boost student persistence and retention
  •  Develop and implement strategies to increase student success, persistence, and completion
  •  Develop and implement policies and procedures that are aligned with the college mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan
  •  Serve as QEP director and complete QEP reports and assessments as required by SACSCOC
  •  Oversee Early Alert and academic interventions designed to identify students through comprehensive and innovative students’ success coursework
  •  Collaborate with departmental leaders to develop annual budgets and resource allocation plans that support the strategic priorities of the Learning Commons including establishing goals and activities, and evaluating program outcomes and success
  •  Collaborate with institutional leadership, academic deans, and other stakeholders to integrate the services and resources of the Learning Commons into the broader educational experience
  •  Provide oversight and strategic direction to each department within the Learning Commons, and ensure that each department operates in accordance with best practices, professional standards, and institutional policies
  •  Monitor and manage financial resources effectively, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability across all departments
  •  Identify opportunities for external funding, grants, and partnerships to enhance the capacity and sustainability of the Learning Commons
  •  Recruit, mentor, and support a diverse team of professional staff within the Learning Commons, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
  •  Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of programs, services, and resources offered by the Learning Commons
  •  Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making, identify areas for improvement, and enhance the quality of student academic support services and academic programs
  •  Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in student academic support services and academic affairs
  •  Work with faculty and staff to ensure that all academic support programs meet requirements for all college planning and evaluation activities, including but not limited to program review, accreditation, resource allocation, and student learning outcomes and assessments
  •  Plan on both a short- and long-term basis for staffing levels in the academic support division
  •  Assist with the development of resource allocations for facilities, equipment, and technologies that sustain academic support programs
  •  Provide leadership, plan, coordinate, direct, and support the activities of the Learning Commons, Library, Middle Colleges, learning communities, distance education, basic skills programs, professional development initiatives, and other college-wide student success programs.
  •  Work in collaboration with the Office of Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness to set up reporting mechanisms to maximize program efficiency
  •  Serve on college committees
  •  Performs additional duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters Degree
• 5 years experience in Higher Education
• 3 years demonstrated experience working with academic services or college level teaching
experience
• Personnel management experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership in developing and providing services for first generation, low-income,
and at-risk students.
• Budget management experience
• Grant management experience
• Outcomes reporting experience

• Ability to effectively analyze data and inquiries, think critically, and make appropriate decisions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work as part of a team or work alone without close supervision
• Strong interpersonal skills

Pay Rate:  $71,528 - $89,410 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
