Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over faculty and staff for assigned areas. 

Job Summary 

Responsible for providing divisional leadership supporting the mission, vision and strategic goals of the College.  Responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and management of assigned instructional programs, services, budget and division employees.  Provides leadership in curriculum, academic assessment and budgeting. Fosters collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners to communicate and coordinate initiatives that support College and instructional goals.  Includes the following instructional programs and related courses: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Mathematics.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.

 
  • Represent and promote implementation of the College’s core values and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the overall operations of the division.
  • Provide strategic, innovative leadership in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the division and related programs and services.
  • Provide leadership and accountability, including recruitment, selection, orientation, scheduling, evaluation, coaching, rewards/recognition, promotion, and discipline in accordance with College policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provide leadership in development and implementation of programming leading to student success, including discipline scheduling and credit for prior learning.
  • Implement the policies and procedures of the College, and when necessary, develop processes and systems that align to those of the College and enhance instruction and student success.
  • Ensure that appropriate division policies, procedures and guidelines are developed, maintained and enforced, including curricular design, instructional delivery, accreditation and assessment activities.
  • Ensure that procedures and actions taken are consistent with the faculty association’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Represent the College and division interests by participation with appropriate external committees and activities (local, regional, and national).
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with College employees, actively participating on and/or leading various College committees, meetings, and work groups.
  • Serve as the liaison to other division and departments of the College relating to College initiatives, academic programs, physical assets, and facilities.  Ensure the division is aligned with the priorities and strategic initiatives of the College.
  • Ensure that division faculty and staff are kept informed of college initiatives and are represented on appropriate college committees and task forces.
  • Mediate conflicts between students and faculty.
  • Develop and implement division professional development activities.
  • Direct the class scheduling and instructor assignments in coordination with other areas of the College.
  • Ensure that the division schedule is staffed, with assignments and coverage/notification of absences taken into consideration.
  • Ensure that course descriptions, course syllabi and other course materials are current and in accordance with guidelines, and maintain files of these documents.
  • Serve as the budget manager, including development and oversight of division and department budgets, controlling and ensuring spending within the budget allocation, and developing cost estimates for future division needs.
  • Ensure division employees provide excellent customer service and a welcoming, supportive, and respectful work and learning environment.  Investigates and resolves requests and concerns per College procedure.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity in hiring and in relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Regular attendance is expected; some evenings and weekend hours are required.
  • Using tact and courtesy, establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Math or Sciences or education or related field required.
  • Minimum of three – five years of supervisory/management experience required.
  • Higher education teaching experience preferred.
  • Administrative experience in higher education preferred.
  • Experience developing alternate modes of learning, inclusive of Credit for Prior Learning or Competency-Based Education preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Competent hands-on computer skills are required. 
  • Ability to use independent judgment and function autonomously.
