Job Summary

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine seeks a visionary Division Chief for Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation with a record of achievement in academic medicine in internal medicine and hematology, blood and marrow transplantation. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician will prepare the candidate for success guiding a busy clinical practice and supporting growing academic careers. The Division will practice in the brand-new ambulatory Markey Cancer Center slated to open in 2027. The Division Chief reports directly to and serves at the pleasure of the Department Chair and collaborates closely with Markey Cancer Center Director and other leaders across UK HealthCare and the College of Medicine.



The predominant criteria for appointment as chief include emotional intelligence, a proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in hematology, blood and marrow transplantation, and internal medicine. The successful candidate will be a prominent academic leader with an established record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship.

SCOPE OF THE DIVISION CHIEF ROLE

The Chief of the Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation Division will make vital contributions to implementing the organization’s most critical strategies and will strive to achieve excellence in a full range of quality measurements, serves at the pleasure of the Department Chair and collaborates closely with other leaders across UK HealthCare, Markey Cancer Center and the College of Medicine. Planning and alignment of future growth and recruitment to accomplish department goals will be integral to the duties of the Chief of Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation.



SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work collaboratively with leadership inside and outside of the department to create an infrastructure comprised of high-quality clinical care that incorporates scholarly and educational activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with clinical leadership, including physician groups, patients, and external entities to foster opportunities for revenue enhancement, enhanced customer service, and to positively impact core clinical measures.
  • Responsible for quality management and provider performance, including physicians, advanced practice providers, fellows, and staff for the Division.
  • Review and report on provider performance quarterly
  • Recruit and mentor those of character into a culture of respect, kindness, and professionalism, where teamwork, innovation, and work satisfaction thrive.
  • Develop a Division Balanced Scorecard in collaboration with the Department Chair Administrative team
  • Support the Division’s research promotion and development in accordance of the Departments metrics
