Faculty Positions in Microelectronics Design at Indiana University

As part of a major, multi-year initiative to expand research activities in Microelectronics Design across the IU Bloomington campus, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering invite applications for three tenure-track/tenured positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2025. Appointments will be in one or more departments, Intelligent Systems EngineeringChemistry, and Physics.

We are particularly interested in candidates working in the following areas related to microelectronics design:

  • Microelectronics design for radiation-tolerant systems, high-reliability environments, complex systems, heterogeneous integrated devices, artificial intelligence, multimodal sensing, high-performance computing, biomedical and nanotechnological applications.
  • Experimental chemistry, including measurements and synthesis in the areas of energy-matter interactions, optoelectronics, nanophotonics and plasmonics, spintronics, quantum materials, thin films, and low-dimensional materials.
  • Experimental physics, including integrated circuit design, system-on-chip, heterogenous computing, radiation tolerance, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as applied in condensed matter physics, quantum information, nuclear physics, particle physics and astrophysics.

Candidates who conduct research that complements our activities  in the Center for Reliable and Trusted Electronics (CREATE), and ongoing efforts with the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and industry, will be given preference. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the university and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates whose demonstrated experience, research, teaching, and mentoring will support the university’s priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Application Procedures: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, summary of future research plans (3-5 pages), statement of teaching interests (1 page), and a statement of future broader impacts through research, collaboration, and mentoring (1 page).  Applicants for tenure-track, assistant professor should apply at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/25716and provide contact information for three letters of reference.  Applicants for associate or full professor should apply at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/25717 and be prepared to provide contact information for three letters of reference, which will only be contacted for those candidates moving to advanced stages of consideration.Review of applications will begin immediately and for best consideration, applications should be received by October 15, 2024. All queries about the position or the application procedures may be addressed to faculty1@indiana.edu.

Before any conditional offer of employment with tenure is finalized, candidates will be asked to disclose any pending investigations or previous findings of sexual or professional misconduct. They will also be required to authorize an inquiry by Indiana University Bloomington with all current and former employers along these lines. The relevance of information disclosed or ascertained in the context of this process to a candidate’s eligibility for hire will be evaluated by Indiana University Bloomington on a case-by-case basis.
