Physical Requirements

Moving and lifting object from floor to above shoulders up to 25 pounds. Standing and sitting at computer terminals and laboratory bench completing repetitive tasks for extensive periods of time. Continuous working with materials requiring personal protective equipment in accord with EH&S policy. 



Shift

Typically weekends, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, but the schedule can be flexible to suit the needs of PI and employee. Some evenings or weekends may be required due to experimentation. 



Job Summary

A position as a laboratory assistant is available in the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center in the College of Medicine. The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain shared, core facilities within the center. These include common cell culture, animal surgery, and instrumentation rooms that support research within the Center. Specific tasks include cleaning and straightening shared facilities; stocking cell culture supplies; routine maintenance of biosafety cabinets, water baths, and cell culture incubators; and other duties as assigned. The opportunity to learn methods commonly employed in biomedical research for the analysis of nucleic acids and proteins in cells and tissues are available, time permitting, to the motivated employee. Prior experience in laboratory research and an interest in biological sciences are preferred, but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical. The position is expected to require 10-15 hours per week.
