Position Information

Hiring Department: Facilities

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 6:00am- 2:30pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $26,000

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Essential Functions

Performs daily trash pickup route.



Sweeps and washes main entrances to buildings, sidewalks, and streets with broom or blower.



Mows, trims, and edges lawns around walks, flowerbeds, and walls.



Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.



Fertilizes lawns, shrubs, and trees with various fertilizers.



Rakes, bags, and disposes leaves and weeds.



Cleans grounds by removing litter, emptying out trashcans, and replacing trash bags.



Shovels snow from walks and driveways.



Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.



Digs, plants, and cultivates grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs and reports infestations.



Waters lawns, shrubs, flowers, and tress.



Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.



Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, shears, and makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.



Operates sweeper equipment to remove litter from parking lots, sidewalks, and streets.



Loads and unloads dump truck with rock, gravel, sand or plants for landscaping projects.



Assists with Sun Bowl events by cleaning streets and parking lots prior to and after events.



Assists masons with mixing and laying cement.



Assists irrigators with digging trenches, laying pipe, and replacing broken sprinkler heads.



Assists with the maintenance and fertilization of grass athletic fields.



Applies herbicides and pesticides.



Must be available on an “On Call” basis.



Overtime may be required.



Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

and

Experience: No minimum experience required.

May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe and Non-slippery shoes, eye protection, ear protection, respirator or dust mask, back belt, hard hats, sunglasses, straw hat, rubber or leather gloves, cover all, face shield, and rubber boots.

The noise level for this work environment is usually moderate.
