Handy Person A

Columbia University is seeking a Handyperson for our Columbia Residential team. Columbia Residential supports the operations of 150 buildings and serves the University community of over 8,000 faculty, staff, postdoc, graduate, and select undergraduate student residents. We are seeking a Handyperson to perform minor building and grounds repairs and preventative maintenance. Under the supervision of our Resident Manager, you’ll be responsible for a variety of maintenance and repair tasks.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform minor carpentry, plumbing, and plastering work.
  • Insure proper operation of absorption air conditioning system, steam boilers, fan coil units, and cooling towers and package air conditioning units.
  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment to prevent issues.
  • Handle seasonal tasks like snow removal and salting.
  • Assist with building operations, including scheduling and staff support when needed.

What you need:

  • High school diploma and/or the equivalent required.
  • Seven years of related experience required.
  • Three years’ supervisory experience required.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required.

The schedule for this position is Sundays to Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The salary rate is $30.67/hour.
