Job Summary

To assist in actualizing our mission, we seek candidates for the position of Instructional Designer. This position’s job responsibilities are as follows:

Instructional Design
Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts regarding the design, development, and delivery of engaging learning experiences. Work independently to produce learning experiences drawing on expertise in a variety of tools including the Learning Management System, Authoring Software, and a variety of educational software tools. Work with faculty to support the development of course and module level objectives, assessments, course content and learning activities. Update and develop resources to support distance learning faculty. Contribute to the improvement of quality assurance processes and actively implement processes to ensure accessibility standards are met. Conduct periodic evaluations of instructional methods and technologies used to design, develop, and deliver online courses. Design following ADDIE, TILT, and also according to universal design principles to ensure courses are accessible to all learners, including those with disabilities.

LMS integration & eLearning implementations
Work with Subject Matter Experts to produce innovative and engaging learning experiences. Produce learning experiences drawing on expertise in a variety of tools including the Learning Management System, Authoring Software, and a variety of educational software tools. Collaborate with the college of Social Work Media team to support the creation of relevant media content to support the learning experience. Design and develop eLearning content to align with program and course level learning outcomes. Ensure the end-to-end process of building robust, user-friendly courses in Canvas LMS that align with quality standards and best practices in online education. Implement advanced Canvas features such as adaptive release, mastery paths, and blueprints to create personalized learning experiences, and use/creation of CSS. Develop and maintain course templates that ensure consistency across the CoSW’s online offerings while allowing for subject-specific customization. Execute comprehensive quality assurance processes to ensure all course elements function correctly before deployment. Conduct thorough pre-launch testing, including cross-browser and cross-device compatibility checks.

Project Management
Manage multiple projects by coordinating meetings, activities, and reporting with both College of Social work colleagues, faculty, and other external collaborators to ensure deadlines and milestones are met and projects remain on track. Implement and update project management tools to track completion of tasks and milestones for a variety of projects. Communicate project status updates to both internal and external stakeholders. Manage projects from initial consultation to delivery, evaluation, and revision. Engage with the campus community to contribute to the University’s overall success and mission. Responsible for expanding relevant professional knowledge to better serve students, faculty, staff, external units and the University.

Professional Development & Organizational Improvement
Maintain current knowledge of educational software and design tools and trends, as well as pedagogy. Engage with the campus community to contribute to the university’s overall success and mission. Responsible for expanding relevant professional knowledge to better serve students, faculty, staff, external units, and the University. Serve as a point of campus expertise in instructional design, principles and models, online course design and development, quality assurance, accessibility best practices, and industry-standard authoring tools.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Canvas LMS; Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
