Job Summary

The full-time faculty member of IT networking creates, manages and participates in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. The full-time faculty member participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The faculty member supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the College embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by the board of education. This position description is in association with the tenure-track full-time faculty contract. This position is intended to be in IT networking instructions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instruction& Student Learning

  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for andexercisesoversightofthecurriculuminconjunctionwiththeDepartment’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction.
  • Designs curriculum embracing diversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students whilemodelinginclusiveteachingstrategies,withanunderstandingofthesocio- cultural issues of traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learningactivities.
  • Participatesintheidentificationofstudentswithacademicor other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Uses technology inamannerappropriatetothenatureandobjectivesofcoursesandprograms and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.
  • Keepsaccurateandappropriaterecordsinaccordancewiththe Faculty Handbook and departmental policies.
  • Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
  • Create and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Participates in the selection of appropriate materials to support coursecurriculum in accordance with the College’s guidelines.
  • Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employs and assists in the design and development of appropriate assessment techniques tomeasurestudents’performanceinachievingcoursegoalsandobjectives.Bea facilitator of learning in a digital environment.

Student Engagement & Advisement

  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
  • Maintains posted office hours in accordancewithdepartmentalandpoliciesoftheCollege.
  • Usestechnologyto assist in communication with students.Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion.
  • Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by: assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, as appropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course description, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curricula.
  • Completes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participates in all required training by the College.
  • Shares best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings.
  • Participates in instructional, departmental, or institutional research to improve educational effectiveness.
  • Evaluates teaching and assessment practices to continue improving them.
  • Provides feedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of the department, division and the College.
  • Participates, as appropriate, in the interviewing, selection, and orientation processes of department faculty and staff.
  • Provides advice and/or assistance to faculty within the department, division, or College.
  • Attends faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chairperson and participates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisional committees.

  • Maintainsa personal portfolio fortenureand promotion reviewand other career-related needs.
  • Employs student, administrative, and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professional development and participates in professionaldevelopmentactivities.
  • Contributes,asappropriate,totheplanning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programs.
  • Maintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.

Salary Details:

9-Month Instructor Salary:$47,160 - $60,086

Optional Summer Semester (Full load): $15,257 - $17,088
Optional Overload (maximum amounts shown):

  • Autumn Semester (12 contact hours): $11,520
  • Spring Semester (12 contact hours): $11,520
  • Summer Semester (9 contact hours): $8,640

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides consultative assistance to and advises, as appropriate, student organizations and groups.
  • Contributes to the community and/or the profession as a representative of the College.
  • Participates in local, statewide, or national levels in the advancement of the discipline and/or the two-year college mission.
  • Works a varying schedule, including nights & weekends to meet departmental needs.
  • Must be available to teach on-site at the Main Campus and travel to Regional Campuses, as scheduled.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Computer Science with an emphasis in computer networking.

  • At least 2 (two) years experience working in network management and/or systems administration performing duties related to systems administration, cloud computing, virtualization and wireless networks.

Required Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience working with scripting languages, network automation tools and network operating systems such as Windows Server and Linux.
  • Functional use of scripting languages such as Powershell and/or Python, and other automation tools; hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), MS Azure and Google Cloud; digital course development and delivery; functional use of configuring networking operating systems using Windows Server and/or Linux; functional use of working with virtualization and containerization; experience teaching on-line and in-person instructions. Working knowledge of Office 365 Administration in an IT networking environment.
