About the Office of Audit and Consulting Services

The Office of Auditing and Consulting Services (OACS) reports administratively to the President and functionally to the University's Internal Audit Committee.

The OACS staff is composed of auditors with varying levels of experience in operational, compliance, financial, and information systems auditing. The auditors participate in universally recognized professional associations and certification programs. The auditors are also required to earn continuing education credits in subjects relevant to the services provided by the OACS.

The OACS is responsible for independently reviewing management's disposition for administrative and accounting controls. When necessary, the auditors will recommend changes to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.

The OACS interacts with every college, department, and division of UTEP. The auditors take pride in their work and ensure the safekeeping and confidentiality of all records and information used during the course of an audit.

To provide an independent, objective, assurance and consulting activity designed to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of UTEP's financial and operational controls through continuous examination and evaluation. To support UTEP in accomplishing its mission by bringing a systematic, disciplined, approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes.

Position Information

Hiring Department: Office of Auditing and Consulting Services

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Summary: Provide IT skills for the review of data processing systems, controls and operations and perform I/T auditing assignments in accordance with established State and university regulations.

Essential Functions

Assumes responsibility for IT audits.



Applies various audit procedures including preparation of internal control questionnaires and audit programs.



Plans and conducts audit work on assigned audits.



Reviews systems, transactions, documents, records, reports, and methods for accuracy and effectiveness.



Applies and assists others in the use of computer-aided techniques.



Prepares acceptable working papers to record and summarize data on the assigned audit projects.



Prepares findings and recommendations for inclusion in audit reports.



Participates as an advisor in the design and development of new information systems and major enhancements to existing systems.



Provides a wide range of computer support to the office and audit staff.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Computer Science or related area of responsibility from four-year college or university.

and

Experience: 2(two) years IT-related experience preferably with a government agency. Must have knowledge and proficiency in computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of PeopleSoft, Banner, Microsoft 365, Teams, and Zoom.

Certifications: One or more of the following certifications is preferred, but not required:

Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

NOTE: Will reimburse test fees, study materials, and license fees, and provide required CPE.
