Position Information

Hiring Department: University Career Center

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under limited supervision this position is responsible for planning and implementing programs and services to provide career /educational planning for students and alumni.

Essential Functions

  • Works with RC Coordinator to ensure document revision of Career Center materials to ensure proper grammar and continuity with other print materials.

  • Researches, develops and enhances Career Center content (print, online, and social media resources).

  • Oversees Resource Center Coordinator as well as three student employees - ensuring training and completion of outreach activities

  • Oversees website, social media content and distribution as well as the graphic design for the office

  • Manages use of IRIS photobooth

  • Serves as a liaison for the Career Center with the department of Athletics and Alumni to enhance career readiness and preparedness.

  • Assists visitors with resume reviews and resources.

  • Assists RC Coordinator with Career Closet inventory, policies and procedures, and student checkout records.

  • Tracks engagement in Career Center database, called Handshake.

  • Coordinates ‘Career Conversation Cafe' a 30-minute weekly Instagram show featuring Alumni.

  • Ensures all Career Center materials follow UTEP branding guidelines.

  • Processes data entry and generate reports regarding Career Center activities using proprietary databases.

  • Ensures update and maintenance of PowerPoint slides projected in Resource Area, which include upcoming events, workshops, interviews, and recruiting activity.

  • Supports and oversees daily operations of the Resource Area, including cataloging, handout duplication, re-shelving of resources, and cleanliness of lobby area.

  • Creates promotional materials, handouts, forms, and website banner graphics

  • Conducts one-on-one and group assistance to students in the following areas: resume reviews, mock interviews, career advising, job search assistance and graduate school document reviews.

  • Supports assessment instruments pertaining to on-campus recruitment efforts.

  • Distributes available professional and trade publications to several other campus departments.

  • Complies with all State and University policies including FERPA and adhere to confidentiality and security policies as set by the University Career Center.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor's Degree

    and

    Experience: Five years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience including ability to provide and receive feedback effectively. Supervisory experience and knowledge of HTML and/or Cascade.

    Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree
