Job Summary

Somerset Community College is accepting applications for a Mgr II - Admin Leadership- Associate Dean position. This position is responsible for facilitating the effective operation of an academic department and is directly responsible to the division Dean. The Associate Dean has the delegated responsibility for faculty evaluation, program level assessment and planning, department budgeting, the scheduling of courses and teaching assignments, the implementation of curriculum requirements and innovations, and the general integration of departmental programs at the division level. The Associate Dean is expected to represent the College appropriately and serve as community liaison for his/her respective department, division, and College as a whole. 

Job Duties:

• The Associate Dean's first responsibility is to the students enrolled in the courses offered by the department. He/she will ensure that instruction is adequate, grading is fair, and standards are maintained.

• Responsible for day-to-day operations and management of respective academic department.

• Assist the division Dean in the planning, development, and implementation of instructional programming and activities including program review, strategic planning, budget monitoring, and project reports.

• Work collaboratively with appropriate faculty and/or program coordinators, Dual Credit coordinator, and Center Directors to develop the department’s course offerings and academic schedule.

• Conduct teaching evaluations of adjunct (to include Dual Credit) and full-time faculty or assign other faculty to conduct teaching evaluations as necessary.

• Serve as evaluator for appropriate faculty/coordinators in the administration of the Planning, Performance, and Evaluation (PPE) requirements.

• Work collaboratively with appropriate faculty, coordinators, and/or dean to ensure that unit objectives are met.

• Work collaboratively with department faculty and staff with reporting channels to the appropriate dean.

• Promote the professional development of departmental faculty and staff.

• Effectively communicate with other academic and student affairs departments/divisions to ensure cooperation in reaching the mission, goals, and strategic objectives of the College.

• Consider the rights and welfare of departmental faculty in decision-making processes.

• Mediate conflicts between department faculty and student concerns.

•Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and four years related work experience, or equivalent.
