Job Summary

Job summary/duties: Manages research administration activities from proposal preparation through closeout on behalf of the College of Engineering & Applied Science. Reviews and approves proposal submissions, contract negotiations, project setups, compliance, and/or financial reporting. Develops and oversees implementation of operations and strategic planning to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements within CEAS . Responsible for grant development and proposal support including working collaboratively with faculty to develop grant proposals that support the mission and goals of CEAS and UWM .

Proposal Development

• Provides expert knowledge and training regarding the proposal development process to faculty and administrators within CEAS and serves as research liaison to other campus units and CEAS partners Consults with Office of Research support staff to acquire, maintain and interpret current knowledge of funding and federal programs and submission deadlines for application; keeps abreast of laws, regulations, agency requirements and emerging conditions relative to grant development; maintains current information regarding educational issues, trends, best practices and innovative programs Develops and executes new policies and procedures within CEAS to ensure compliance with changing regulations and best practices

• Maintains knowledge of faculty expertise to align the appropriate funding opportunities with the appropriate faculty; may identify funding opportunities and disseminate to principal investigators

• Provides support for faculty through consultations on proposals, hands on proposal development and proposal review

• Reviews guidelines for eligibility requirements and explain grant restrictions, regulations, priorities, and deadlines

• Provides document design support for proposals and other grant-related documents

• With input from faculty, develops proposal budgets to meet both University and sponsor requirements. Reviews and edits draft proposals by faculty and staff for institutional and funding agency compliance, as well as for accuracy, completeness, clarity and responsiveness in accordance with grant applications guidelines and requirements for legal and fiscal implications

• Compile proposal applications for submission by Office of Sponsored Programs

Award Management

• Guides and assists researchers and provides training related to interpretation of policy and procedure related to overall sponsored project management

• Assists researchers by drafting contracts or agreements for review, and/or advising award setup

• Assists researchers with preparing and/or maintaining documentation, financial management, and/or reporting requirements related to sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with PI’s and UWM Office of Sponsored Programs

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or higher

• 5 years of experience with research grant proposal development in technical or higher education environment for submission to state/federal agencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent organization skills, ability to manage a large variety of tasks and set priorities; highly detail-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines

• Evidence of ability to develop new approaches/methods/techniques to streamline the proposal and grant processes

• Experience with effort certification and research compliance

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations to small and large groups

• Evidence of professional development activities such as membership in National Council of University Research Administrators or Certified Research Administrator (CRA )
