Job Summary

The NDNP Title Essay Specialist is responsible for researching, compiling, and writing authoritative essays on historical newspapers. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong research abilities, and excellent writing skills to produce essays that provide essential information about newspaper titles for a general readership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough research on assigned historical newspapers using archival documents and other reliable sources.
  • Analyze and synthesize information to create comprehensive title essays that include:
    • Publication details (place, dates, schedule)
    • Geographic coverage and circulation statistics
    • Political, religious, or other affiliations
    • Target audiences and special features
    • Physical attributes and changes over time
    • Notable editors, publishers, and reporters
    • Significant events covered by the paper
    • Relationships with newspapers in other areas
    • Technological innovations in newspaper production
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging essays following NDNP style guidelines, including proper formatting of:
    • Newspaper titles
    • Names, titles, and geographical terms
    • Numbers, dates, and inclusive ranges
    • Punctuation and quotations

English, History, or Journalism majors, minors, or degree-holders preferred.
Experience working with archival materials preferred.
