Job Summary

Informatics Programs in the School of Information Sciences seeks to hire outstanding full-time, specialized faculty members at the rank of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor, or Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor to join our Game Studies & Design program. In addition, part-time positions are available at the rank of Adjunct Lecturer. The program serves undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in the study and design of games, gaming, game design and the digital, extended and virtual reality (XR/VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies involved with the crafting of interactive systems and interfaces relevant to the game, film, education, and media industries, as well as a range of other emerging professions. Course topics include the logical, algorithmic, narrative, and design capacities needed to make games, interactive narratives, and simulations, as well as the history, cultural meaning, social impact, ethics, and the increasingly significant role of games, gaming, and interactive media in a diverse society. A new online MS program in Game Development will be offered beginning 2025. Areas of teaching need include:

  • Game Production
  • Game Design
  • Art for Games
  • Videogame Programming (Unity or Unreal Engine)
  • AI in Game Development
  • Extended Reality in Games
  • Narrative game development

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

For Instructor: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Art, Art Education, Design, Education) o For Lecturer: M.S. or MFA in Art, Design, Computer Science, Information Science, Education, or a closely related field.

For Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor - Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Design, Computer Science, Information Science, Education, or a closely related field.

Those without terminal degrees but with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience may be considered for clinical titles. MS/MA or PhD (or equivalent) in Art, Computer Science, Design, English, Information Science, Media, Music, or a related area. Prior relevant teaching or training experience. Prior experience in the videogame industry.

Experience: Required:

For Instructor - Minimum of 3 years combined work or teaching experience in game design or related field

For Lecturer - Minimum of 5 years combined work or teaching experience in game design or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Required: Technical proficiency in game design. • Required: Proficiency in teaching.

Appointment Information

We are unable to sponsor an employment visa or take over sponsorship for an employment VISA for this position now and in the future. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States with no visa sponsorship.

This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/16/2024. The minimum salary is $70,000, We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
