Description 

Clinician needed to serve as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) and Emergency Department. The NP/PA will conduct psychiatric evaluations/assessments, psychopharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and level-of care recommendations for individuals presenting in the psychiatric emergency room.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will involve families and obtain collateral history as needed for accurate assessments. NP/PA will collaborate with ED, CPEP, Adult Inpatient & Consultation Liaison physicians as well as ED nurses, social workers and counselors in screening, intervention, referrals to treatment and general discharge planning. NP/PA will also provide education to staff and trainees.

Common conditions addressed may include but are not limited to delirium, behavioral symptoms associated with dementia, depression and anxiety, elevated suicide risk, and substance use disorders.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be assigned to various Hospital Units such as ED and CPEP which will encompass all other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Full-Time. (4) 10-hour shifts weekly.

Qualifications 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Applicants must have the below credentials or have them in possession by the start date.

Nurse Practitioner: Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. Nurse Practitioner Certification in Psychiatry. Valid New York State license as a Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant: Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program. NYS Physician Assistant license. NCCPA certified or must have in possession by start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Nurse Practitioner: Clinical experience as a provider in an acute psychiatric setting and/or consultation and liaison psychiatry role, teaching experience. Clinical experience in de-escalation techniques.

Physician Assistant: Clinical experience as a provider in an acute psychiatric setting and/or consultation and liaison psychiatry role, teaching experience. Clinical experience in de-escalation techniques
