Job Summary

This is a part-time, temporary position in the Academic Support Center, reporting to the Coordinator. Southwest Tennessee Community College aims to employ peer tutors to provide learning support, course reinforcement, and coaching to students outside the classroom in one or more of the qualified subject areas. Peer tutors will also serve as role models for other Southwest students.

Job Duties

  • Tutor students in areas of need.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions as required by CRLA.
  • Maintain tutoring records in TutorTrac software.
  • Be punctual and maintain work schedule.
  • Knowledge and ability to tutor students effectively in at least one of the following subject areas:
    • Accountancy
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Biology Business Administration
    • Chemistry
    • Computer Engineering Technology
    • Developmental Reading and Writing
    • Emergency Medical Technician
    • Engineering
    • English and Literature
    • Fine Arts
    • French
    • Graphic Arts
    • History
    • Hospitality Management
    • Information Technology
    • Mathematics
    • Office Administration
    • Paralegal Studies
    • Political Science
    • Physics
    • Social Science
    • Spanish

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3.25 or above GPA.
  • Completed 15 credit hours.
  • Received A’s in tutoring subject areas.
  • One letter of recommendation from an instructor in intended tutoring subject area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, or online tutoring.
  • Answer questions relating to course content and offer study strategies to empower student success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work with an ever-growing student population.
  • Ability to work well with peers, staff, and faculty.
