Job Summary

This position reports to the Tutor Coordinator and provides instructional support/assistance for Math courses. Meets with students virtually or in person at SKYCTC’s main campus.

Job Duties:

This position reports to the Tutor Coordinator and provides instructional support/assistance for math courses and meets with students virtually or in person at SKYCTC’s main campus. Works with students one-on-one and in small groups for sessions lasting up to 30 minutes. Helps students become confident, independent learners. Additional duties include completing mandatory training, logging tutoring appointments in Starfish, and assisting with help desk duties.
• What do Tutors do? Tutors help students learn how to learn by assisting with course materials and study skills.
• How do Tutors help students learn? Tutors collaborate with students to help them strengthen their knowledge and skills. Tutors work with the student, rather than doing the work for the student.



Minimum Qualifications:

• Required: Grade of A in MAT 150 – College Algebra
• Successful completion of 12+ credits of SKYCTC college courses.
• A GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches the subject/course you want to tutor.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Grade of A or B in additional math courses, such as:
o MAT 155 – Trigonometry
o MAT 175 – Calculus I
o MAT 185 – Calculus II
o STA 220 – Statistics

Additional Skills Requested:

• Patience, kindness, dependability, and a strong interest in helping others
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and reiterate course content effectively
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Maintain competence in subjects tutored by reviewing course materials
• Proficiency with computer programs, including PeopleSoft, Blackboard, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Starfish
• Behave professionally with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff
