Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff. Must be able to move about in a complex physical environment.



Shift

To ensure the best patient outcomes and a healthy work environment, 50% of hours worked are to be within the hours of 3pm-7am, and must include a minimum of 16 weekend hours in a 6 week schedule. Any modification of this requirement must be made at the discretion of the Nursing Operations Administrator/Service Line Nursing Director



Job Summary

The Assistant Patient Care Manager (A-PCM) supports the administrator of capacity and the patient logistics/transfer center director whose human resource span of control exceeds acceptable UKHC standards. He/She will provide supervision, coaching, mentoring and opportunities for growth to nursing staff and assist in the day to day management of the patient observation program, patient transport program, and the discharge lounge. The A-PCM assists with scheduling, payroll management, monitoring of staff competencies, evaluation of staff performance, and special projects as assigned by the supervisor. Increased supervision and staff coaching/mentoring is associated with decreased staff turnover and improved patient outcomes.

APCM will assist with:

Sitter Utilization:
o Review initial sitter orders for appropriateness
o Triage telesitter usage
o Manage and evaluate existing sitter orders daily
o Communicate with clinical care teams to discontinue or extend sitter orders every 72-hours
o Audit and round on in person sitters
o Own sitter “wild card”
o Oversee policy creation and revisions
o Manage UK employee sitters
o Develop and lead sitter huddles with nursing directors
o Participate in Crothall contractual meetings
o Calculate and communicate sitter resource utilization

Discharge Lounge Utilization :
o Communicate with clinical care teams to identify appropriate patients for discharge lounge
o Act as liaison with third-party for patient transport and sitters
o Direct supervisor for monitored transport supervisor and monitored transport program
o Calculate and communicate discharge lounge utilization





Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

BLS plus unit specific competencies/certifications such as PALS, ACLS, etc
