Required Education

Candidates should have a good understanding of and experience with microbial fermentation processes, bioreactor design, and modeling.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00 am- 5:00 pm (40 hours per week minimum) other hours as experiments may require



Job Summary

We are seeking one self-motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct research on one or more of the following aspects: biomass feedstock characterization and conversion; bioleaching or biomining of raw materials for mineral removal/recovery; microbiology and bioreactor design; statistical and kinetic modeling. Experimental work will be conducted in our well-equipped laboratories at the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, University of Kentucky. You will be expected to apply HPLC, GPC, TGA, GC-MS, NMR and other analytical equipment to characterize biomass raw materials, the intermediate streams and end products. You will also be expected to write manuscripts for publication and help on project reporting and grant proposals. This is a grant funded position.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Candidates should have a good understanding of and experience with microbial fermentation processes, bioreactor design, and modeling. experiences in analytical chemistry and biomaterial characterization; excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work productively and independently as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
