Postdoctoral Fellow (2 Positions)

The University of Texas at El Paso College of Education is thrilled to announce a cluster hire of two (2) full-time Postdoctoral Fellows for the newly forming research cluster "RAISE - Research Academic-Work Integration in STEM Education." The vision of the RAISE research center is to be an international and national leader in academic-work integration research. We aim to (a) conduct field defining research to gain comprehensive knowledge of the challenges, opportunities, and implications of combining education with employment for our students at UTEP and other Hispanic Serving Institutes (HSIs) as a model for other universities, (b) investigate students' experiences in workplace learning, and (c) integrate labor data into workforce development planning. Research will be used for policy recommendations and the design of interventions for our and other students.

The interdisciplinary team cluster comprises researchers in STEM education, educational leadership, socio-cultural foundations of education, engineering, and leadership of career services for students on campus.

Essential Functions

Post-doctoral Fellows will collaborate with faculty investigators to carry out such responsibilities to include, but not limited to, the following:
  • Designing, developing and implementing lines of inquiry aligned with the center's visions and aims in work-integrated studies, labor studies and workforce development.
  • Designing, adapting and testing research instruments suited for the research of the center
  • Publishing and presenting research findings in competitive peer-reviewed venues;
  • Writing grant funding proposals to seek extramural support;
  • Writing/amending IRB applications and obtaining IRB approvals;
  • Collecting/analyzing/managing research data sets;
  • Collaborating with and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Assisting with project management.


Job Requirements:
Successful candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Higher Education Studies, Workforce Development, Educational Economics, Education Policy, STEM Education, Curriculum Theory, Social or Organizational Psychology, Sociology, Learning Sciences, Data Science, Psychometrics, or related fields by the effective appointment date. ABD applicants will be considered if Doctoral will be in hand by the effective appointment date.

Appointees must demonstrate evidence of research productivity in topics related to the center's vision. This evidence can include publications, being member of a research team, success fostering constructive collaborations, and well-developed experiences using qualitative and/or quantitative methodological approaches. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated competence in advanced quantitative methods.

Each Fellow will have the opportunity to work on projects. Post-doctoral Fellows will participate in a co-generative mentorship model ? with the goal of additionally developing and implementing an independent research program on relevant projects within their time as post-doctoral researchers. Fellows will be co-mentored by project investigators (i.e., PI and team) who will provide apprenticeship in: designing and enacting research projects, competitively pursuing extramural funding to support research, and mentoring students.

Additional Information:
This position is funded through the Regents' Research Excellence Program and is contingent upon availability of funds. The initial salary is competitive, based on qualifications and experience, and comes with excellent fringe benefits.
