Pre-Health Professions Coordinator
Position Summary: The College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for a Pre-Health Professions Coordinator. This is a term, renewable, 12-month appointment that is 92% administrative professional and 8% non-tenure track faculty.
Duties and Responsibilities: The advisor works with undergraduate pre-health professions students who intend to apply to professional programs of medicine, dentistry, nursing, etc., providing guidance in the career exploration and planning process. Advisement includes all major and graduation requirements. Some counseling is required with students who are unsure of their career plans and with those students experiencing academic difficulties. The position also teaches a health professional schools application process course.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must hold a master’s degree in the appropriate field (including coursework in the life sciences and/or physical sciences).
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an advisement office and/or a clinical setting. Specific knowledge and experience with various professional health careers, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and experience with student databases and degree audit systems.
