As the professor of themed entertainment design with a focus on teaching design and development of theme parks and themed environments, you will instruct students on the development of show set packages including the creation of conceptual designs, design phases, style, mood, storyboards, 3D renderings, spatial illustration walkthroughs, and more. You will be required to plan and prepare lessons, maintain an active and engaged classroom environment, and provide feedback to students to aid in their academic progress. Responsibilities include syllabus design, submission, and approval; holding office hours and conducting midterm grade reviews; providing extra-help sessions, extended-learning opportunities, and field trips; and conducting course and program-level assessments. The position entails fulfilling grading and academic documentation requirements, recording attendance, following academic policies and regulations, and supporting academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts. Additionally in this role you support accreditation and any other events, exhibitions, or publicity assignments.  

The ideal candidate will be able to research and provide scenic finish applications and thematic materials, in addition to providing innovative design solutions. They should exhibit a basic understanding of throughput, guest capacities, and queuing while enjoying working in a studio team environment. The candidate should be able to adapt to changes and direction quickly, understand POV’s and sightline studies with a general knowledge of thematic fabrication and installation methods, and be able to attend on-ground and virtual events such as faculty meetings and admission events.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in art, design, themed entertainment, theater, or interior design with proven experience as a show set designer in the creative development of immersive spaces
  • Experience in theme park development, theatrical experience, and or hospitality related design
  • Strong portfolio of theme park, theatrical required, or hospitality related design
  • Ability to hand sketch concepts, fully design elevations via 2D/3D software
  • Analytical, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills with knowledge in a wide range of building codes, regulations, building systems, facility integration, safety and fire/egress

Preferred Qualifications:     

  • Theme park development and design package experience
  • Software knowledge in Revit, AutoCad, Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Suite
  • Working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, 3DsMax, SketchUp, and 3D rendering in general 

Travel Required:  

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
