Job Summary

The Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in the field of Engineering Geology/Geomorphology. This is a 12-month non-tenure eligible position in the research title series with an anticipated start date of January 6th, 2025. The initial appointment period will be for one year and is renewable based on satisfactory progress and funding availability. The engineering geologist or geomorphologist position is expected to develop close working relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, industry, and other non-governmental stakeholders involved with Kentucky natural hazards and emergency management. This position will work with The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS) in collaboration with other researchers, to investigate and characterize landslide hazards and risk in Kentucky and to successfully conduct research into other areas of engineering geology or geomorphology pertinent to natural hazards and environmental issues in Kentucky, and of regional, national, and international scientific-technical interest and relevance.


Principle duties are expected to include: 1) design and execution of scientifically advanced earth surface processes investigations, particularly focusing on landslides and other mass movements, including the development of new initiatives via grant proposals; 2) project data collection, analysis, and management, including implementation of proper quality assurance and archival methods; 3) communication of research results through timely publications and public presentations to diverse audiences; and 4) serving as a student research or thesis/dissertation committee member or advisor.


A Ph.D. in Geomorphology or related field is required.
