Required Education

In order to be eligible for the position, a candidate must:
1. Be a full time undergraduate student, in good academic standing
2. Be enrolled in at least one course at the University of Kentucky if a BCTC student
3. Be in good disciplinary standing with the university
4. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher by the end of the Fall 2024 semester to be considered for placement.
5. Be a sophomore, junior, or senior in the fall of 2025.

Physical Requirements

Sitting for long periods of time while working at the front desk (4-hour shifts), completing rounds of the building during on-duty coverage.

Job Summary

Position to begin in August 2025.

Resident Advisors are valuable members of the Office of Residence Life and work within our residential curriculum, the Wildcat Way, to support student well-being and cultivate a sense of belonging by creating inclusive living and learning experiences within our residential communities. Primary responsibilities of the position include creating and identifying opportunities for student engagement, serving as a referral resource to residents, managing critical administrative tasks, including incident response and on – duty coverage, and serving as positive role models for residents.

Resident Advisors are responsible for the following key areas:

Wildcat Way – Promote and support overall student well – being and sense of belonging by implementing strategies outlined in the Wildcat Way curriculum. Strategies include: CATS Up sessions, community learning activities, signature events, and learning moments.

Leadership Development – Contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork by collaborating and participating in all required trainings, meetings, and development opportunities. Selected applicants will complete a leadership development series during the spring 2025 semester prior to final selection to the RA position.

Resident Behavior & Support – Reflect and role model positive behavior, and ensure safety and security through policy enforcement based on UK’s University Housing Community Standards and Code of Student Conduct.

Communication & Administration – Communicate regularly with Resident Director and complete administrative tasks, including, but not limited to hall opening/closing, weekly staff meetings, 1:1s, on-call coverage, and incident report writing.

Preferred Education/Experience

At least one semester of experience living on campus either in the UK residence halls or at a previous school.
