Senior Associate, Leasing Services & Compliance

Columbia University’s Residential team is seeking a dedicated Senior Associate for Leasing Services & Compliance to support the management of 149 graduate and faculty residential buildings around the Morningside Heights campus; Manhattan Valley; and Riverdale, Bronx. This role will work closely with the Director of Leasing Services, ensuring compliance, handling landlord/tenant interactions, and overseeing leasing operations for a portfolio of over 8,000 units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lease Documentation: Draft, review, and manage leases, amendments, renewals, and terminations while ensuring compliance with all legal and organizational standards.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the primary contact for tenants, property managers, and legal counsel, ensuring that leasing documents reflect negotiated terms accurately.
  • Compliance Management: Implement and oversee protocols to maintain compliance with property laws and leasing regulations.
  • Research & Reporting: Conduct legal research on zoning regulations and provide strategic recommendations, as well as prepare reports for internal audits.
  • Database Management: Maintain leasing databases and document systems for accurate, accessible recordkeeping.
  • Special Projects & Training: Support projects related to leasing, and provide training on NYC regulations for rent-regulated and exempt units.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leasing and compliance, ideally with a focus on legal aspects.
  • Knowledge of NYC housing regulations, landlord/tenant laws, and fair housing laws.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in property management software and Microsoft Office.
