Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm

FLSA status: Exempt

Salary: $46,550 annually. Non-negotiable.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under the direction of the Post Approval Verification & Education (PAVE) Administrator and in cooperation with the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care & Use Program (IACUP), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), the PAVE Coordinator assists in ensuring a high-quality research monitoring protection program that reflects The University of Texas at El Paso's commitment to the ethical conduct of research involving human subjects, animals and recombinant DNA. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining quality improvement/assurance efforts, in addition to aiding in training and education and process improvement functions, as well as research monitoring and auditing.

Essential Functions

Assists with the operationalization of the research Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) program. Components include faculty and staff training, auditing, monitoring, record keeping, program evaluation, and other compliance issues that meet the applicable government and local regulations and the institution's policies and practices.

Under the direction of the Administrator, conducts internal and external QA and process improvement initiatives, including but not limited to: policy and SOP development, audit checklists, worksheets, resources, business workflow analysis, and continuous quality improvement.

Supports the Biosafety Program, Human Subjects Research Program, and Animal Welfare Program by ensuring recruitment, research, testing, management, and instruction activities are compliant with regulations, meet expectations of industry standards, and comport with institutional procedures and policies.

Works with faculty, staff, and external entities to ensure research compliance with federal, state and university statutory and ethical requirements.

Coordinates with research program managers and administrators to facilitate the review and oversight of regulated research, create PAVE reports, and document recommended or required actions stemming from post-approval monitoring.

Collaboratively work with the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) areas, and may attend facility inspections, investigations, and interviews.

Manages the delivery of training verification and educational programs and related communication channels (Websites / Listservs) regarding regulated research.

Ensures confidentiality regarding subjects, records, and review of issues.

May assist in development of UTEP policies and procedures regarding research.

Develops and fosters effective working relationships between researchers, UTEP departments, and external stakeholders.

Performs other duties as assigned.



Engage in professional development opportunities as available; maintain memberships in professional listservs and regularly review postings to gain updated information about relevant regulations and best practices and apply them to PAVE materials and procedures.

May represent the business function, division, or department at meetings, conferences, and seminars or committees.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Occasional traveling required.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree

and

Experience: Three (3) years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Applicants Should Demonstrate:

Knowledge of research conducted with humans, animals, and recombinant DNA.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
