The Senior Program Manager assists the division leadership in leading intersectional engagement opportunities between APA members, health care, community and other advocacy stakeholders. The incumbent works to develop and foster lasting relationships with diverse communities and cultivate and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders. The incumbent responsibilities align with APA’s fourth strategic initiative of supporting and increasing diversity within APA; serving the needs of evolving, diverse, underrepresented and underserved patient populations; and working to end disparities in mental health care.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with internal and external constituents to create and execute intersectional programs and events that promote mental health equity.
  • Works with DDHE leadership to develop a community partners network and capacity building strategy.
  • Explores within APA innovative ways to partner with different medical and lay organizations to broaden the collective impact of addressing mental healthcare disparities.
  • Identifies stakeholders, partners, and participants for recruitment to specific programs and events.
  • Creates and tracks deliverables that are both measurable and sustainable.
  • Disseminates as appropriate APA educational resources through programming.
  • Collects data that can inform the development of additional APA resources to best serve our members and APA areas.
  • Develops and executes program and event marketing plans in partnership with Marketing and Communications.
  • Coordinates and executes the logistics of each program and event.
  • Generates and provides health equity related stories to surface equity-related news with Communications, Psychiatry.org website, Psychiatric News, etc.
  • Performs need analysis to identify knowledge gap within APA resources related to diversity and health equity.
  • Identifies APA members who are subject-matter experts in diversity and health equity-related topics.
  • Monitors development and progress of resources.
  • Reviews and edits the contents of resources.
  • Develops advertising strategy to promote resources to APA membership.
  • Facilitates post-production analytics of educational resources (working with Marketing and Communications).
  • Contributes to the creation, production and oversee programs and products of the APA’s DDHE.
  • Contributes to and prepares presentations, issues briefs, position statements and other written materials pertinent to diversity and health equity.
  • Serves as a staff liaison for APA-assigned components as needed.
  • Coordinates off-site and onsite meetings.
  • Helps with monitoring progress of respective programs, as assigned.
  • Under the direction of the Managing Director, monitors expenditure of respective programs.
  • Partakes in periodic evaluations (e.g., mid-year and year-end evaluations) of programs to report outcomes.
  • Reviews current literature and serves as a resource on updated research or emerging issues which advance diversity, health equity, and social determinants of mental health.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Relationships span levels internally and externally and center on partnering with clients/customers and organizational partners.
  • Uses diplomatic skills to obtain trust and cooperation in order to resolve issues and/or non-routine matters, manage projects, or achieve appropriate solutions.
  • Likely to represent the organization as a liaison to APA governance and other external coalitions and audiences with feedback provided to management.

ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of DDHE’s processes, relationships, and responsibilities as well as the interactions within the organization.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BA/BS and at least 5-7 years of relevant experience and/or sufficient relevant work experience; master’s degree in public health, population science, health equity, population health, or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in working on the development of online educational materials in medicine/health or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superb administrative skills, leadership, and organizational abilities including management of diverse and overlapping projects and timelines.
  • Skill developing and editing various kinds of reports.
  • Program management experience, preferably in an academic, membership, or association setting.
  • Well-developed meeting planning skills.
  • Excellent cultural humility skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing skills, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office applications and the Internet.
  • Experience with marketing and promoting events and services.
