Job Summary

Big Sandy Community and Technical College is seeking a Student Support Specialist III. The Ready-To-Work Program offers professional development opportunities to assist students with tardiness, proper work attire, personal hygiene, and economic barriers affecting housing, transportation, etc. The successful candidate will supervise our KTAP population for on-campus and off-campus positions while providing case management services to students who meet program qualifications.

Job Duties:

  • Recruit participants for the Ready to Work Program by visiting off-campus locations and speaking with students who meet the program's eligibility criteria.
  • Actively work with DCBS case workers on referrals on OTIS.
  • Monitor students' progress in the classroom and speak with faculty and staff to make them aware of the available services.
  • Consult with students to aid and coordinate services with DCBS.
  • Act as a liaison between DCBS and Big Sandy CTC.
  • Actively search for and recruit job and work-study placements for active Ready to Work
    students, both in paid work-study positions and community service.
  • Actively work with agencies and adult education providers in the community to create and provide opportunities for affordable housing, work placement, and other services.
  • Assist with preparing and monitoring the proposal and budget for the Ready to Work
    Initiative.
  • Research and apply for grants from outside agencies to aid with student needs in the RTW Program.
  • Monitor time sheets for RTW participants.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years related experience in Human Services, Psychology or Counseling. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years related experience in Human Services, Psychology or Counseling.

Additional Skills Requested:

  • Keen ability to problem-solve.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Extensive knowledge of KTAP.
