Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Student Wellness and ADA Accommodations, this position is responsible for helping to coordinate key processes and events coming out of the Student Life & Wellness division within Student Support Services. This includes providing core and federally mandated student services, specifically ADA Accommodations/Disability Services, identifying and guiding students to wellness resources, and hosting student events virtually and on campus to support the overall department. Additionally, this position assists in helping to build sustainable, intrusive, and targeted supports to promote student persistence and success while mitigating overall attrition. This position will also have a focus on proactively capturing student needs, both in and out of the classroom. This position requires developing collaborative working relationships with intradepartmental staff, campus and academic leadership, and other student-facing departments to holistically support students.

About the Department

The Student Support Services department operates in three distinct divisions: Advising, Operations, and Student Life & Wellness. Each division is managed by a senior director and houses numerous student support divisions that service all students at The Chicago School. We aim to create a thorough support network for students and to enhance their classroom education through cocurricular experiences. All staff in the department administer a high level of customer service to ensure student persistence and success. Student Support Services team members work collaboratively within the office and with many other campus-wide constituent groups. Team members are expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment, and to work hours consistent with the campus student populations’ need for access to services, which will include occasional evenings and weekends. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Support the Director of Student Wellness and ADA Accommodations in providing triage support for students who are referred to the division to ensure they receive the service(s) and intervention(s) needed.
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of wellness outreach to students and the campus community through programming, events, presentations, and documentation of wellness information. 
  • Support the Director of Student Wellness at ADA Accommodations in providing ADA Accommodations and Disability Services:
    • Analyze documentation, provide referrals, approve reasonable accommodations, and connect students with services to support their academic goals.
    • Conduct individualized assessment and analysis of requests for appropriate and reasonable accommodations.          
    • Provide guidance and support to students with respect to federal and state disability laws.
    • Maintain student data, accommodation documentation, and related records for students with disabilities, ensuring secure storage and privileged communications practices to comply with FERPA and ADA confidentiality laws.
    • Field questions from students and their health care providers, faculty, and staff regarding the accommodations and needs of the students while helping to find reasonable solutions.
    • Provide ongoing student case management through consultation, facilitation, and communication with students, faculty, administrators, on specific academic adjustments, modifications, and/or accommodations and services.
    • Provide regular training for faculty concerning ADA Accommodations.
  • Serve as a staff leader for the Students with Disabilities student group.
  • Provide support and leadership for campus-based events including, but not limited to orientation, commencement, student groups/associations, and campus events. 
  • Coordinate student events, including scheduling, collaborating with academic departments on presentations, coordinating check-ins, and leading student and staff volunteers. 
  • Exemplify and model teamwork within the division, Student Support Services department, and between cross-functional departments.
  • Adhere to university compliance, DOE regulations, SOPs, and The Chicago School catalog/handbook to students as well as direct students to appropriate forms and policies based on need.
  • Participate in university initiatives as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Displays professionalism in all interactions.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and PC skills (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all students regardless of educational level as well as all employees regardless of position/title.
  • Experience/comfort with utilizing technology in an educational setting preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience working with ADA Accommodations or other specialized student supports preferred.
  • Experience within student-facing positions and/or Higher Education.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by supervisor and student need.
  • Strong problem identification/solving skills, as well as program planning/development and interpersonal skills.
  • Compensation Range
    • Compensation Range - $25.00-$27.00
