Job Summary
The Surgical Dental Assistant will assist faculty and residents of the Pediatric and Adult (GPR) Dentistry programs with daily patient schedules by using four-handed/chair side and expanded-duty dental assisting skills. This position will also assist with oral and I.V. sedations.
The position will be trained to work in the Center for Advanced Surgery center, assisting with dental procedures performed under general anesthesia. The Surgical Dental Assistant also assists with patients who are medically, mentally and physically complex, including the use of restraints and special devices and patient management techniques.
This position is for the Kentucky Clinic; however, the person in this position may be asked to occasionally provide fill-in and back-up coverage for other Dental Assistants at various levels, both on and off campus.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Expanded duties certificate; Coronal polishing certificate; Radiation safety certificate, knowledge of proper infection control techniques in dentistry.

Preferred Education/Experience
Five or more years related experience as an expanded duties dental assistant in general and/or pediatric dentistry preferred. Experience assisting with sedations and working in the operating room environment preferred. Knowledge of implant procedures is desirable.
