Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Transfer Advisor/Success Coach is responsible for providing academic and career advising to students interested in transferring to a 4-year institution. The Transfer Advisor/Success Coach will develop relationships with 4-year institutions to improve the transfer process and student success. They will also coordinate visits to Northeast State Community College by 4-year institutions for recruitment and advisement. The Transfer Advisor/Success Coach will also help implement initiatives to improve student success, retention, and degree completion.

Job Duties

• Provide academic and career advising to prospective and enrolled students interested in transferring to a 4-year institution.

• Coordinate visits to Northeast State conducted by 4-year institutions for recruitment/advisement.

• Develop and maintain relationships with 4-year institution staff and academic advisors to improve the transfer process and student success.

• Contribute to the development of a transfer website, publications, and other resources for transfer students.

• Develop and implement initiatives to support students as they prepare for graduation prior to transfer to a 4-year institution.

• Develop degree plans for currently enrolled students as requested.

• Provide advising services to Distance Education students including off-campus and online students.

• Conduct classroom presentations and workshops on topics relevant to student success as appropriate.

• Assist with the implementation of initiatives to improve student success, retention, and degree completion.

• Complete other assignments as directed by supervisor. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one year of postsecondary student-facing experience working as an academic advisor, student mentor, success coach, or completion coach
OR
• Associate degree from an accredited institution and three years of postsecondary student-facing experience working as an academic advisor, student mentor, success coach, or completion coach

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education, counseling, higher education, or related field
• Experience as an academic advisor, student mentor, success coach, or completion coach working with transfer students
• Community college experience
• Conversational ability or fluency in a second language

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Understanding of the role academic advising plays in student success and retention
• Understanding of the comprehensive community college philosophy
• Knowledge of legal and confidentiality issues related to student advisement
• Strong organizational and time management skills
