The American Job Centers (AJC) aid our customers achieving self-sufficient, sustainable employment on a career path toward continued growth opportunities. We are currently in a partnership with the University of Memphis to assist in the implementation of the Growing Relational and Occupational Wealth in West TN Households (GROWWTH) grant’s accelerated workforce readiness training program. The GROWWTH Employment Specialist II provides individualized case management services to assist the customer in meeting the goals set forth in the GROWWTH Family Plan. The intensity of services may vary from customer to customer depending on their individual skills level.  The services provided may include soft skills / job readiness training, interviewing techniques, job search techniques, referral to community resources, career interest profiling, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain working knowledge of the GROWWTH program and services.
  • Develop engagement with GROWWTH participants by maintaining twice a month contact on all participants who are enrolled in the program to help with gaining and maintaining self-sufficiency employment with opportunities for upward mobility.
  • Document all contacts made with GROWWTH participants in CaseWorthy under case notes within the required time frame.
  • Assist Career Advisor with collection of documentation needed to assist with supportive services, milestone payments, or training services.
  • Send Career Advisor copies of all documentation needed to make milestone payments, supportive services, and training.
  • Reviews goals in Family Plan to ensure progress of assigned goals and assist with participant need.
  • Assists in referring participants to partner agencies for wrap around services to remove barriers to employment and meet the training and supportive service’s needs (such as childcare, transportation assistance, uniforms/tools and emergency support) for the families.
  • Maintain knowledge of eligible training providers and short-term training programs within GROWWTH guidelines and relay information to participants.
  • Maintains spreadsheet of all contacts required.
  • Assist with the Welcome Function as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Sedentary:  Desk work; standard office settings.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient to Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Able to engage customers with multiple employment barriers.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail; ability to complete work timely with minimal errors.
  • Ability to follow written instructions with minimal supervision.

Pay range-$15 per hour
