Position Purpose

The Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion serves as the college’s diversity officer (CDO) and provides college-wide leadership for the college’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts in support of the college’s mission, values, and strategic framework. The position manages the day-to-day operations of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion department and serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and recommendations to administrators, staff, and faculty in the areas of diversity, equity, and intercultural responsiveness. This position ensures the furtherance of strategic goals and compliance with the college’s Affirmative Action Plan, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities policies, and local, state, and federal regulations.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion department works collaboratively with key partners in the College community (Office of the Provost, Human Resources, Center for Professional Development and Collaboration, Employee Ombuds and Student Ombuds) to provide strategic leadership, suggest strategic professional education, oversees the collection and reporting of data, and investigation of complaints filed under applicable Federal and State of Minnesota Statutes, Century College and Minnesota State Board of Trustees policies.

This is a cabinet level position that reports to the College President or designee. This position will manage projects and initiatives in coordination with other stakeholders on campus.  This position serves as the Lead Bias Incident Response Officer, Affirmative Action Officer for the College and Deputy Title IX Coordinator. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Provides strategic leadership for College diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure alignment with the identified DEI goals.
  • Professional Development Planning, Communication and Support
  • Planning, Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting 
  • Oversees the Formal Investigations Process
  • Campus-Wide Engagement

Minimum Qualifications (must have at time of application)

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated relevant experience with proven advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical components of academic excellence and student success.
  • Experience as a senior-level administrator with experience reporting to the President/CEO or Vice President of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)

  • Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated skill in leading and directing teams, providing coaching and mentoring to develop individuals and ensure their success.
  • Ability to build relationships to effectively understand the needs of diverse populations and translate those to campus initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations such as Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Affirmative Action, Title IX, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective use of research sufficient to prepare and present complex reports and presentations.
  • Proven critical analysis skills to evaluate, prioritize, and resolve complex issues.
  • Proven facilitation skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office 365 applications. 
  • Proven success as a public speaker and workshop facilitator.
  • Ability to intentionally and empathetically facilitate mediated conversations, racial and trauma healing circles, and small group dialogue on a variety of related topics.
  • Certified Title IX Coordinator or ability to become a certified coordinator within six (6) months of hire.
  • Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator or similar professional certification assigned by the President or designee within six (6) months of hire.

Hours:  Monday – Friday *Century currently operates in a hybrid work environment. The hiring manager will provide guidance to the type of work environment at/following the interview process.
