Essential Functions <ul> <li>Per the SOM mission and accreditation standards, the faculty member will participate in the implementation of a transformative curriculum that involves the collaborative development and implementation of competency based, innovative and integrated teaching and learning strategies.</li> <li>Teaching activities include the following topics/skills: clinical reasoning, medical interviewing, communication, physical examination, osteopathic manipulative medicine, medical procedures.</li> <li>Teaching activities may also involve interaction with standardized patient actors and the use of simulation models.</li> <li>Faculty members will participate in student skills assessments.</li> <li>There may be other times in which teaching, mentoring or advising will occur, and arrangements will be made with the Chair.</li> </ul> Job Duties Knowledge Skills and Abilities <ul> <li>Passion for and commitment to medical student education for purposes of optimizing patient outcomes, particularly in vulnerable and marginalized patient populations.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.</li> <li>Knowledge of osteopathic philosophy.</li> <li>Knowledge of osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT).</li> <li>Strong knowledge base of medical history taking and clinical skills.</li> <li>Commitment to social justice and values-driven curricula.</li> <li>Ability to collaborate effectively with administration, staff, peers and full-time and community-based faculty.</li> <li>Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.</li> <li>Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.</li> </ul> Required Education <ul> <li>D.O. degree from a COCA-accredited medical school.</li> <li>Training in an accredited Family Medicine residency program or other primary care residency program.</li> </ul> Required Work Experience <ul> <li>Experience working on a team of physician faculty in an academic setting.</li> <li>Experience teaching in small and/or large group settings.</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications <ul> <li>Active use of osteopathic manipulation in clinical practice.</li> <li>Experience teaching OMT to osteopathic medical students, residents, and/or physicians.</li> <li>Experience with case-based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings.</li> <li>Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.</li> <li>Fluent in Spanish.</li> </ul> Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations <ul> <li>Board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine or other primary care specialty.</li> <li>Valid unrestricted Texas medical license, or ability to obtain Texas licensure in a reasonable time frame.</li> </ul> Work Hours Based on course assignment.
