Student mentors will report to the Associate Dean of Student Success.Principal Duties:<ul><li>Participate in professional learning, including completing a course emphasizing mentoring knowledge and skills.</li><li>Provide a positive source of support to first year law students.</li><li>Support mentees in identifying and implementing effective:<ul><li>Case reading and briefing strategies</li><li>Course outlining strategies</li><li>Exam preparation strategies</li><li>Priority management strategies</li><li>Study plans and strategies</li></ul></li><li>Guide mentees in identifying and using appropriate resources.</li><li>Commit to meeting with the mentee on a regular basis.</li><li>Attend meetings and establish consistent office hours.</li><li>Maintain a solutions-oriented approach to challenges and problem-solving.</li><li>Maintain confidentiality.</li><li>Perform related duties as assigned. </li></ul>Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:<ul><li>Ability to interface professionally with administration, faculty, and students; works collaboratively with others.</li><li>Ability to develop rapport, trust, and confidence with mentees and provide support in a professional and respectful manner.</li><li>Significant interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.</li><li>Ability to efficiently and thoroughly complete tasks in a timely manner.</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. </li></ul>Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>Desire to help students succeed</li><li>Must be enrolled at Colleges of Law and in good academic standing</li><li>Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.3 or above or term cumulative GPA of 2.3 or above the most recent two or more terms</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Preference will be given to students who are eligible for work-study</li></ul>Compensation &amp; BenefitsThis opportunity is budgeted at $$20/hr base compensation.
