The faculty member will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence, and learner-centered curricula. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities as assigned. Essential Functions <ul> <li>Participate in implementing a transformative curriculum that involves the collaborative development and implementation of competency-based, innovative, and integrated teaching and learning strategies.</li> <li>Teaching activities include the following topics/skills: clinical reasoning, medical interviewing, communication, physical examination, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and medical procedures. Teaching activities may also involve interaction with standardized patient actors and simulation models.</li> <li>Participate in student skills assessments.</li> <li>There may be other times when teaching, mentoring, or advising will occur; arrangements will be made with the Chair.</li> <li>Adhere to UIW policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.</li> <li>Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.</li> <li>Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.</li> <li>Performs all other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> Job Duties Knowledge Skills and Abilities <ul> <li>Strong knowledge base and experience in individual’s discipline as it relates to the practice of medicine.</li> <li>Excellent communication skills.</li> <li>Strong knowledge base of medical history taking and clinical skills.</li> <li>Knowledge of osteopathic philosophy.</li> <li>Knowledge of osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT).</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.</li> <li>Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.</li> </ul> Required Education D.O. or M.D. degree from an accredited U.S. medical school. Required Work Experience Completion of an ACGME accredited residency training program. Preferred Qualifications <ul> <li>Completion of an ACGME accredited residency training program, preferably in a primary care specialty (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn, etc.).</li> <li>At least one year of post-residency/fellowship clinical practice.</li> <li>Active use of osteopathic manipulation in clinical practice.</li> <li>Experience teaching OMT to osteopathic medical students, residents, and/or physicians.</li> <li>Experience with case-based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings.</li> <li>Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.</li> <li>Fluent in Spanish.</li> </ul> Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations Current board certification or board eligibility in specialty, with a valid unrestricted Texas medical license, or ability to obtain Texas licensure in a reasonable time frame. Standardized Patient, Part-Time (2024-2025 Academic Year)UIW MissionPosition SummaryThe Standardized Patient (SP) is trained to portray the role of a patient, family member, or other to allow student learners to practice physical exam skills, history taking skills, communication skills, and other exercises. Standardized Patients will often be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the medical students learning experience. The SP must maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, supervisors, peers, and UIW partners.
